100 people bought tickets from Virgin Galactic to fly into space for $450,000
Virgin Galactic has resumed selling tickets for its flights to the "edge of space" at an increased cost. The company said it has already sold 100 tickets at $450,000.
Prior to August, applications for space flights cost $250,000, which looks like a mere "bargain" against the backdrop of the new fare. A total of about 700 people, including Ilon Musk, reserved seats on Virgin Galactic flights at the time.
The company hopes to sell 1,000 tickets before the start of commercial flights, which it recently (once again) postponed until the fourth quarter of 2022. Virgin Galactic only allows customers who have made a $1,000 deposit to buy tickets. The company plans to make sure more people can book a seat by early 2022.
Unity 23, Virgin Galactic's next flight, will not take off until at least mid-2022. It will carry three passengers from the Italian Air Force who are to investigate the effects of microgravity.
