The Verge reporter received a GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card at the recommended price after 9 months of waiting
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 is the cheapest graphics card of RTX 3000 series. Its price was $329, but at this price at the start of sales it was unrealistic. The Verge reporter Shawn Hollister was able to buy the accelerator for $329 after spending 9 months in line.
What We Know
Hollister got in line to buy a GeForce RTX 3060 from EVGA on February 25, 2021. On November 8, he received notification of an opportunity to purchase the graphics card for $329. The customer created an account on the manufacturer's website to order the accelerator. What's interesting, EVGA gave 20 hours to complete the purchase.
Note that EVGA is one of the few companies that have launched a pre-order program. It's true that since last month, customers can't get in line to buy graphics accelerators. Now the manufacturer is fine-tuning the digital queue system, as users were able to buy multiple graphics cards while allowing one.
GeForce RTX 3060 accelerators are freely available, but cost more than triple the recommended price in some cases. For example, at Newegg the most expensive model costs $2,140. But this is an isolated case. Most of the cards cost from $820 up to $1 000.
