Apple plans to spill sports broadcasting market
Apparently in an effort to give users more access to sports streaming, Apple is reportedly working hard on a new framework that will potentially improve the streaming experience for iOS and Apple TV apps.
Following the release of the first beta of iOS 15.2 in October, reporters at 9to5Mac examined internal system files and found references to something called "SportsKit". While no one knows for sure what this framework is, but it looks like it's integrated with the Apple TV app, Siri, and home screen widgets.
Notably, these widgets seem to be capable of receiving real-time updates and data changes - something that the current widgets cannot. Siri has acquired the ability to report sports scores in real time, so this functionality can be extended to other interfaces of the ecosystem.
As noted, the SportsKit framework is a private API which means it won't be available to third-party developers, at least not initially. It is also in beta, which means the likelihood that it will never see the light of day.
