Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has released a report on the foldable smartphone market in the third quarter of 2021. Samsung is the undisputed leader.
What is known
In the third quarter of 2021, the foldable model market grew almost sixfold (+ 480%) compared to the same period in 2020. All manufacturers shipped a total of 2.6 million devices.
Samsung holds 93% of the market, while Huawei has 6%. As you understand, all other companies control 1% of the market in total. According to forecasts, in the fourth quarter of this year, Samsung's share will rise to 95%, and almost 4 million bendable smartphones will be shipped to the market.
The undisputed leader in the period from July to September was the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. The model occupied 60% of the market and turned out to be almost three times more popular than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 (23%). But according to the DSCC forecast, in the fourth quarter the gap will narrow to about 20%.
Samsung also leads the market for foldable smartphone panels. Samsung Display has a 95% stake.
