Steam Deck will begin shipping in late February
Component shortages and delivery delays are still creating chaos in the technology industry. But despite this, Valve assures that it will start sending its Steam Deck in February next year.
"We feel we are on our way to that," said designer Valve Greg Kumer in an interview with the publication PC Gamer, - "We are still upset that we had to postpone the issue from the end of this year to the beginning of next. But yes, all indications are that we will be able to start shipping in February. "
As soon as the company opened a pre-order for its console, the estimate of potential delivery quickly changed from the planned date for several months ahead. With this in mind, the journalist asked how many Valve consoles he could send in February, to which he received the following answer:
"This is a real product launch, so many thousands of people will get the decks as soon as we can send them. But even talking about thousands would be quite small compared to the volumes we take in the first few months."
So far, Valve has not disclosed the number of pre-orders. But, as noted Kumer, the situation with Steam Deck is different from many other product launches. Because Steam Deck will only be available from Valve and will not be shipped to other retailers.
"The main reason why we had to move from the end of this year to the beginning of next year is that several parts were very difficult to catch up."He said Kumer. "It simply came to our notice then. In fact, it all came down to a couple. They belong to the category of microchip-type chips, which are difficult to obtain from several sources, and when many people require these parts автомобі cars had such shortcomings with specific integrated circuits - we were in a similar situation. We almost reached the point where all 50 of these things went smoothly, but it wasn't quite so. So it all came down to that. "
