Singapore will increase the number of robots to patrol streets and public places

Police in Singapore plan to increase the use of robotic officers. After five years of trials, robotic patrols will gradually be deployed across the city.

The devices were first used for security purposes at a parade in 2018. During the COVID pandemic, police increased the number of robot patrols to look for social distancing offenders.

Since June 2019, Singapore has been using robot patrols at Changi Airport to enforce traffic rules.

In April 2023, the airport's Terminal 2 was equipped with two more high-capacity robots. They are equipped with rotating cameras, blinkers, sirens and retractable masts.

The police can communicate directly with the public through the robots' speakers. Law enforcers are also able to watch a live video recording, which is stored for 30 days.

During COVID, robo-patrols were used for the safety of police officers. However, after almost all restrictions were lifted, authorities decided to keep the autonomous devices on streets and crowded places.
