Dropbox unveils universal personal file search with artificial intelligence
Two AI-powered services have emerged on the Dropbox platform: the first summarises documents, the second searches for files in the cloud, on the internet and also on the user's device.
Here's What We Know
The universal search engine is called Dash. It comes from the acquisition of Dropbox by Command E in 2021.
Dash works as a universal search on your device and in connected apps. There is also a browser extension.
One section of the Dash home page can contain documents that will be needed at a video meeting. The tool also collects similar files into "Stack". However, users can also create their own stacks, and Dash will suggest files and links to add.
Company representatives have compared "Stack" to Spotify playlists: they're a mix of personally selected and algorithmically enhanced results.
Dropbox AI is already available for Pro customers and some workgroups. The company has also opened a waiting list for Dash beta testing.
