Valve confirms removal of games that use copyright-infringing artificial intelligence

Valve has confirmed that it will remove games with generative artificial intelligence that potentially infringe copyright.

Here's What We Know

Valve spokesperson Kaci Aitchison Boyle assures that the company is not trying to discourage the use of AI on Steam. She says the confusion has arisen because the company is reviewing its game approval process in light of the development of the technology.

"While developers can use these AI technologies in their work with appropriate commercial licenses, they can not infringe on existing copyrights," Aitchison Boyle said.

She added, Steam will refund application submission credits to all developers whose games have been rejected due to AI copyright issues while the company finalises the review process.
