ChatGPT suspends Bing integration to prevent paywalls circumvention
OpenAI has shut down ChatGPT integration with the Bing search engine due to people using the feature to illegally access some pages.
Here's What We Know
Shortly after the integration, OpenAI discovered instances where it was failing. For example, if a user specifically requests the full text of a URL behind a paywall, the chatbot can "unintentionally" provide it.
The company has therefore disabled the Browse with Bing beta feature "an abundance of caution". OpenAI has promised to fix the bug and bring the integration back "as quickly as possible".
In most cases, paywalls are used to get readers to subscribe to the site. However, users have found that ChatGPT is able to circumvent the restrictions by asking it to print text from the requested page.
