The Associated Press (AP) and OpenAI have entered into an agreement to share news stories to train language models.
Here's What We Know
The two-year deal gives OpenAI access to select news content and technologies from AP's archives dating back to 1985. The company will use this data to enhance future iterations of ChatGPT and related tools.
The parties have not yet settled on the details of the deal. Apparently, AP will gain access to OpenAI's proprietary technology as part of the exchange.
AP does not use generative AI to write articles, but does use similar technologies to automate corporate earnings reports, local sports coverage, and other types of articles. The agency also uses such tools to translate weather reports into Spanish.
