Voice actors worried that generative artificial intelligence will "steal their voices"
The voice actors at San Diego Comic-Con discussed the impact of artificial intelligence on the industry and humanity as a whole.
Here's What We Know
The panel discussion featured voice actors, members of the National Association of Voice Actors (NAVA), and SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. They said generative AI poses a threat to actors' creativity and performance.
Crabtree-Ireland said artificial intelligence poses significant risks to all of humanity in the future. He urged everyone to resist the misuse of technology and assert their right to control their bodies, voices, faces and likeness.
One voice actress expressed concern that the next generation of voice actors may not be able to build a career in this field.
Also discussed on the panel was the fact that controlling language is already a common element of contracts. Without proper protections, "your first job could potentially be your last job," said NAVA president and founder Tim Friedlander.
