Japanese supermarket uses artificial intelligence cameras to offer shoppers more products
A Japanese supermarket has begun analysing visitor behaviour using generative AI that generates real-time recommendations for shoppers.
Here's What We Know
The technology was developed by Fujitsu. It uses video cameras to detect shoppers lingering at window displays, comparing multiple products, picking up groceries or reacting to in-store content.
Observing behaviour allows cues to be set up for generative AI, manifesting itself as a customised "concierge avatar" that generates individual sales recommendations. Fujitsu expects this process to result in shoppers returning to shelves and buying recommended products.
The supermarket trial of the technology will run until 15 October. Fujitsu plans to release a solution based on the trials as early as next year.
