Pony.ai and Toyota enter into a partnership to produce robot taxis in China

Unmanned driving technology developer Pony.ai and Toyota are joining forces to create fully unmanned robotaxis.

Here's What We Know

The co-operation will begin as early as this year. The joint venture between Toyota China and GAC has set aside around $139 million for this purpose.

The investment will follow Toyota's announcement of a $400 million investment in Pony.ai in 2020. After that, the automaker promised to provide developers with an undetermined number of its electric vehicles to be converted into robotaxis.

Since its founding in 2016, Pony.ai has raised more than $1bn.
