Cruise and Waymo have seen a surge in downloads of their robotaxi ordering apps

Consumer interest in rival robotaxi services Cruise and Waymo has skyrocketed after both companies received approval to expand their unmanned transport service in San Francisco.

Here's What We Know

Data.ai estimates that the Waymo One app was downloaded 15,400 times between 10 and 15 August. That's a 67% increase from a week earlier.

The Cruise app was downloaded 8,300 times, a 77% increase over the same five-day period.

Overall, the Cruise app was downloaded 146,000 times and Waymo One was downloaded around 513,000 times.

Despite the high number of downloads, the actual number of users of the robotaxi service is unknown. Waymo earlier said that there are 100,000 people on a waiting list for the Waymo One service in the San Francisco area.
