YouTube and UMG will create an AI incubator to protect musicians' copyrights from generative artificial intelligence

Streaming service YouTube, along with record label Universal Music Group (UMG), has created Music AI Incubator to experiment with generative AI in music.

Here's What We Know

As part of the incubator, a group of artists including Rosanne Cash, Yo Gotti and Frank Sinatra's reps will "help gather information about generative AI experiments and research" on the platform.

YouTube also said it is investing in building its Content ID rights management system. In addition, the platform will update its policies on uploading AI content and deploy generative tools to help detect videos that violate the service's rules.

YouTube promised to balance rights protection with creator-led innovation, including figuring out how to monetise AI-generated content.
