Actors employed in video game production have been allowed to go on strike over fears they will be replaced by artificial intelligence
The American Guild of Television and Radio Artists (SAG- AFTRA) have announced a possible strike in the video game industry over the use of artificial intelligence that threatens their profession.
Here's What We Know
The current agreement with major game studios such as Activision, Epic Games and Electronic Arts expired in 2022. Negotiations for a new contract have stalled as the studios are unwilling to give actors protection from having their voice and movements used to create characters with without their consent.
The guild is demanding an 11 per cent pay rise from the end date of the previous agreement, as well as annual increases of 4 per cent over the next three years to compensate for inflation.
The strike has not yet begun. However, if the protest takes place, it could disrupt the production of many popular video games or accelerate the use of artificial intelligence by studios.
