Lord Justice Colin Birss of the UK Court of Appeal has admitted to using ChatGPT to help write a judgement.
Here's What We Know
According to Birss, he turned to ChatGPT to create a paragraph in documents for a case involving intellectual property. The generated text he copied into his judgement.
The judge called ChatGPT a "very useful" tool, especially for summarising information. In doing so, Birss emphasised that he takes responsibility for the decision.
This is the first known case of a British judge using generative AI in his work.
