The US National Security Agency (NSA) is opening an artificial intelligence security centre in light of the growing integration of AI into defence.

Here's What We Know

Army Gen. Paul Nakasone said the centre will be part of the cybersecurity division, where the agency works with private companies and partners to protect US defence infrastructure from China, Russia and other adversaries.

"We maintain an advantage in AI in the United States today. That AI advantage should not be taken for granted" - Nakasone stated.

The general recalled that US intelligence and defence agencies are already using artificial intelligence.

"We do see assistance from artificial intelligence. But at the end of the day, decisions will be made by humans and humans in the loop" - he said.

Nakasone noted that the centre will develop standards and recommendations for safe implementation of AI in the military and defence sphere. It will work closely with industry, laboratories, academia and foreign partners.
