Google has filed a lawsuit against attackers who tried to take advantage of the hype surrounding its Bard artificial intelligence service to infect users' devices with malware.
Here's What We Know
The lawsuit states that unknown individuals from Vietnam created social media pages offering to "download Bard." This was actually malware to steal credentials.
The scammers used Google's brands and trademarks to mislead users about the nature of Bard, which is actually a free web service.
Google has already filed hundreds of requests to remove domains associated with the scam. The new lawsuit aims to prevent similar situations from happening again in the future and block the scammers from US domain registrars.
As noted by Google general counsel Halimah DeLaine Prado, litigation is an effective tool to combat cybercriminals using new technologies.
