Video service YouTube has announced new measures to combat the use of generative AI and misinformation on the platform. They will address the transparency of AI-based content and the problem of dipfakes.
Here's What We Know
Celebrities will now be able to demand the removal of videos with fake content that mimics their face or voice. Similarly, musicians will be able to block videos with synthetic recreations of their vocals.
YouTube will decide whether to remove such content based on factors like the presence of satire or how recognisable the person is. There will also be mandatory labelling of content created or altered with AI.
In case of violation of the rules, authors will face deletion of posts, suspension of YouTube's affiliate programme and other consequences. The company claims that it will inform content creators about the peculiarities of the new tools.
On the viewers' side, the innovations will result in a large banner in the description, which will inform about the presence of modified or synthetic content. However, YouTube reserves the right to remove particularly shocking videos, even if labelled.
