GitHub has opened up the Copilot Chat bot to all users
Microsoft
The GitHub platform has opened the artificial intelligence-based Copilot Chat service for programmers to a wider audience. Earlier it was available only in beta version and for corporate clients.
Here's What We Know
Copilot Chat can now be used in Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio IDEs. It is available as part of the GitHub Copilot paid tiers and free for verified teachers, students, and some independent developers.
The tool allows you to ask natural language questions about software creation and receive answers and hints in real time.
The chatbot is based on OpenAI's trained GPT-4 model. According to GitHub, it is less prone to "hallucinations" than the previous version. However, experts still recommend carefully checking AI-generated code for vulnerabilities.
GitHub aims to make Copilot more attractive for developers to compete with similar solutions from Amazon, Meta, Hugging Face and others. For now, the service is unprofitable for the company.
