Aurora Innovation, a company specialising in autonomous vehicles, has finalised the design, architecture and hardware for its Aurora Driver system.

Here's What We Know

The technology will be used in a line of unmanned semi-trucks that the company plans to produce with German auto component supplier Continental, starting in 2027.

Aurora says it still plans to deploy several fully unmanned trucks by the end of 2024. Once the self-driving hardware and software is finalised, the company is ready to deploy "thousands" of vehicles in just three years.

Aurora plans to roll out 20 fully autonomous trucks this year and 100 units in 2025. Eventually, the company intends to sell the drones to other firms.

In April 2023, Aurora announced a drone joint venture with Continental. The company has also entered into agreements with Volvo and Paccar to use its technology in their trucks.

Aurora plans to build and test the first prototypes of its vehicles with Continental in the near future, before starting assembly line production at the German partner's facilities.
