Duolingo laid off 10 per cent of contractors, shifting their tasks to artificial intelligence
Language learning service Duolingo has cut 10% of its contractors by delegating their tasks to artificial intelligence tools.
Here's What We Know
According to the company representative, Duolingo no longer needs such a large number of people to perform some of the work. He did not specify what exactly the contractors were doing.
"Part of that could be attributed to AI", Duolingo spokesperson added.
Previously, Duolingo has been actively implementing AI tools in its products - in particular, for voice generation and training scenarios. Last year, the company launched a paid subscription Duolingo Max with a chatbot explaining users' mistakes and a simulator of dialogues in the target language.
However, Duolingo emphasised that the cuts only affected contractors, and do not mean a direct replacement of AI employees. Nevertheless, the growing capabilities of the technology have raised public fears of job losses.
