SAG-AFTRA, the union representing video game voice actors, has reached an agreement with artificial intelligence platform Replica Studios.

Here's What We Know

Under the deal, SAG-AFTRA members will be able to work with Replica Studios to license their voices to game studios. The union's chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland said it "opens up new employment opportunities" for voice actors.

The agreement includes minimum pay rates, requirements for secure data storage and transparency in the process. It also stipulates restrictions on the use of voiceovers without further consent and payment.

It is not yet known whether voice actors' voices can be used to train artificial intelligence language models. However, Replica Studios is interested in entering into this type of agreement in the future.

The agreement covers only part of the gaming industry. SAG-AFTRA is also in separate talks with major studios after the strike was resolved last year.
