OpenAI chief urges AI industry to pay attention to nuclear power

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman urged the artificial intelligence industry to focus more on nuclear power.

He said a "breakthrough" in energy production is needed to further develop AI technologies. Altman said the growing energy consumption in his industry requires finding alternative green sources.

"It motivates us to go invest more in fusion" he stated.

Altman himself has already invested hundreds of millions of dollars in startups developing nuclear energy technologies, including Helion Energy. These investments are made through OpenAI's fund, as well as the company's special investment partner, Microsoft Corporation.

In addition, the head of OpenAI commented in Davos on other topical issues of AI development. In particular, he expressed confidence that the technology will not have a significant impact on the outcome of the U.S. presidential election in 2024.

Altman also said that automation will not lead to mass job losses by humans. According to him, people will continue to live their lives and go about their business.

He noted that his company is not dependent on training data from big media outlets such as the New York Times, with which OpenAI is currently in a lawsuit over copyright infringement.

Overall, Sam Altman's speech showed an optimistic view on the prospects of AI development and the OpenAI head's confidence that the industry is moving in the right direction.
