NexPad: a $250 portable external display that turns a smartphone into a tablet
Earlier this year, Nex Computer introduced the NexPad, a portable external display for smartphones, tablets, and laptops. It's been almost 10 months - and the device is finally on sale.
Here's How It Works
The main feature of the NexPad is that it can turn your Android smartphone into a tablet. It uses a USB Type-C connector to connect, and the smartphone itself is magnetically attached to the bottom of the device. It can be used as a touchpad or an additional screen.
The device weighs quite a lot - 736 g, and the total weight with the smartphone can be about 1 kg. Apparently, that's why the NexPad comes with a stand, which adds stability to the design.
Measuring 277×250×63 mm, the NexPad still has a 12-inch IPS display with 1920×1080 pixels and a 16:9 aspect ratio. In addition to the USB-C port, there are two USB 3.1 Type-C ports with pass-through charging, a mini-HDMI 2.0 port and a USB 2.0 Type-C port for data transfer.
The gadget can also be used as an additional screen with laptops and computers.
The NexPad will cost $250. At the moment, the device is only available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada.
