Omega unveiled a $7600 watch that replicates the beginning of the James Bond movies with nothing but mechanics

Omega has been James Bond's favorite timekeeper since 1995: from Golden Eye starring Pierce Brosnan to 2006's Casino Royale, 007 wore nothing but Omega watches, especially the company's Seamaster Diver 300M collection. And to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Bond films Omega has released two special versions of the watch.

Here's What We've Seen

The standard version of the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 60 Years Of James Bond watch combines design elements from several watches featured in various Bond films. On the front, the only hint that this watch is in any way related to Bond is the number 60 appearing at the top of the dial, where the triangle would normally be. However, the main "highlight" hides on the back of the case.

So, on the back, there is a sapphire crystal window. It shows an animation with Bond's silhouette, which we see through the barrel of the gun. This is the iconic beginning of the James Bond films. What's more, there are no LCD or OLED screens here - this is purely a mechanical watch. The manufacturer used a moiré effect to create the animation, where rotating patterns on the discs reveal a sequence of simple four-frame animation. The movement is tied to the moving second hand of the watch, so it plays cyclically while the watch is running.

The Seamaster Diver 300M 60 Years Of James Bond watch costs now $7600. But don't rush to say "expensive," because Omega has another Canopus Gold version for $140,000. Here, the case and bracelet are made of 18-carat Canopus Gold alloy and the dial is surrounded by green and yellow diamonds, meant to pay homage to the colors of the Jamaican flag where James Bond author Ian Fleming built a private estate.
