Apple to release software update to fix radio emission problem on iPhone 12 in France
This week, France's National Agency for Frequencies (Agence nationale des frequences, ANFR) France bans iPhone 12 sales due to too much radiation - Apple could be forced to recall all iPhone 12 smartphones sold due to too high radiation levels and even advised Apple to recall all gadgets the company has ever sold in France. But Apple promises to address the issue soon.
Here's What We Know
The company has promised to release a software update for iPhone 12 owners in France to address the radiation issue.
"We will issue a software update for users in France to accommodate the protocol used by French regulators. We look forward to iPhone 12 continuing to be available in France", the company said in a statement.
The ANFR says that if the update works and radiation levels drop, the ban on smartphone sales will be lifted.
The increase in emitted electromagnetic radiation appears to have been the result of successive software updates released by Apple and was not seen when the iPhone 12 was released in 2020. That said, regulators say that while the radiation levels are higher than generally accepted norms, they are not dangerous and people can continue to use the phones safely.
