Norway confirms it will transfer US F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets to Ukraine

On August 24, the mass media wrote that Norway was going to transfer F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets to Ukraine. This has now been officially confirmed.

Here's What We Know

The information was shared by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre during his visit to Kyiv. The number of aircrafts is not yet named, but according to several sources, we are talking about 5-12 aircrafts.

The head of the Norwegian government emphasised that Oslo would transfer US fighter jets in cooperation with its allies, in particular with the Netherlands and Denmark, which had earlier announced such a step. In total, Ukraine is to receive about 70 aircraft.

The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a multi-role light fighter. It was developed by the American company General Dynamics. Due to its versatility and low cost, the F-16 is a success on the international market. It is in service with 24 countries. The F-16 is the most mass-produced fighter of the fourth generation. As of 2009, more than 4,400 machines were built, and in 2016, more than 2,500 were in operation.
