Saab wants to sell 114 fourth-generation Gripen E fighters to India, establish joint production and build a research and development centre
Saab will try to sell fourth-generation Gripen E fighter jets to India. The Swedish company is ready to participate in a future tender.
Here's What We Know
The Indian Air Force wants to buy 114 multi-role fighter jets. The country's Ministry of Defence wants to have 42 fighter squadrons consisting of 16-18 aircraft.
The winning bidder is to deliver 18 completed fighter jets to India. The remaining 96 aircraft will be built already on Indian territory, where, according to the tender terms, a joint production with a local company should be established.
Saab will offer 114 state-of-the-art Gripen E fighters as part of its response to the upcoming IAF RFP. With Gripen E, India will get next-generation combat air capability and world-class availability - ready to face any threat, any time, anywhere, from any dispersed location. pic.twitter.com/A1WQFSOok2

Saab is ready to go a step further. The Swedish company has agreed to set up a research and development centre to design, manufacture and upgrade Gripen fighter jets. The facility will also be able to support the aircraft already in service with the Indian Air Force.
Another advantage of Saab's bid will be the ability to integrate Indian and foreign weapons on the fighter jets. Winning the bid will be very important for the Swedish company, which has not received new aircraft orders for several years now.
