The US Air Force has sent supersonic strategic bombers to Asia for military exercises with Japan and the Republic of Korea
The United States is conducting bilateral military exercises with the Republic of Korea and Japan. For this purpose, supersonic strategic bombers B-1B Lancer were deployed to the region.
Here's What We Know
Two U.S. B-1B Lancer bombers flew alongside Japanese fighters, including a foursome of F-15J Eagle fighters. The group totalled 14 aircraft including the Lancer.
The Republic of Korea did not specify the number of B-1B Lancers taking part in the exercise. However, it is known that they flew a joint flight with U.S. F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters and Korean FA-50s.
The Lancer is not the newest aircraft in service with the US Air Force. It made its first flight nearly 50 years ago. Nevertheless, the service has no intention of getting rid of the bombers, even though they have long since become non-nuclear weapons carriers.
Supersonic aircraft of strategic aviation will continue to benefit America. In particular, there is a possibility that they will be used to test new technologies, including hypersonic weapons. The B-1Bs will remain in service until the U.S. Air Force receives the next-generation B-21 Raider nuclear bombers.
