The F-16 Fighting Falcon has returned to Kunsan Base after completing a five-month, $22 million refurbishment project

F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters have returned to Kunsan base in the Republic of Korea. The aircraft had been away for almost six months due to reconstruction.

Here's What We Know

The Kunsan base launched a runway reconstruction programme this year. The $22 million project lasted for five months. Once completed, the 8th Fighter Wing, known as the Wolf Pack, returned to the base, which is located 180 kilometres from Seoul.

The runway is 2.75 kilometres long. Work began in April 2023. Fourth-generation fighter jets and most of the personnel went to Osan base for the renovation.

Despite the redeployment, the Wolf Pack continued to fulfil its missions. In particular, the air regiment conducted Buddy Squadron training events with the Republic of Korea Air Force. The 8th Fighter Regiment also participated in Korea Flying Training, Red Flag-Alaska and Cope West exercises.
