Denmark is unhappy with the delayed delivery of F-35 Lightning II fighters, but it will not affect the transfer of 19 F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft to Ukraine
The Danish Defence Ministry has already officially announced delays in deliveries of the F-35 Lightning II. However, this will not affect the Scandinavian country's commitments to Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen plans to discuss with the head of the Pentagon Lloyd Austin the reasons for the delays and ways out of the situation. The Royal Air Force needs fifth-generation fighter jets to fulfil its missions locally and internationally.
Deliveries of the F-35 Lightning II to Denmark were scheduled for the first half of 2024. Due to problems with the Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) upgrade, Lockheed Martin will not ship the aircraft to Denmark until the second half of the year.
Despite the delays, Denmark will fulfil its commitments to NATO and Ukraine. In particular, it is about the training of Ukrainian pilots and the delivery of F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. Earlier, the Scandinavian country officially confirmed that it would transfer 19 aircraft of the fourth generation to the Ukrainian Air Force.
