The Australian Department of Defence has announced plans to upgrade Boeing's P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine patrol aircraft. The defence department intends to improve more than a dozen air platforms.

Australia intends to improve the capabilities of 14 anti-submarine patrol aircraft. The first P-8A Poseidon will undergo modernisation in 2026. All 14 aircraft are expected to receive an upgrade by 2030.
The amount of the agreement is not specified. However, it is known that the total cost of the P-8A Poseidon upgrade programme and the purchase of Northrop Grumman's MQ-4C Triton reconnaissance drone will be $1.4 billion.
