The Belgian authorities will check the possibility of transferring F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets to Ukraine. This was announced by the deputy prime minister of the federal government, David Clarinval.

Here's What We Know

According to new information, Belgium may transfer up to four fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters to the Ukrainian Air Force next year. But first, the Belgian Ministry of Defence will assess the wear and tear of the aircraft.

It should be noted that in early September 2023, Belgium said it would not supply Ukraine with fighter jets, despite the impending delivery of the F-35 Lightning II. The reason is the severe wear and tear of the design. Two weeks later, Ludivine Dedonder said Brussels would take part in training Ukrainian pilots.

The Belgian Air Force has about 45 fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters left in service. Within 5-6 years they should be written off. Deliveries of the first batch of fifth-generation F-35 aircraft are scheduled for 2024.
