BAE Systems will support the AN/ALR-94 advanced electronic warfare system in the fifth-generation F-22 Raptor fighter aircraft for five years
The F-22 Raptor is the first ever fifth-generation fighter jet. The US Air Force intends to start retiring the aircraft, but this does not negate the need to support critical systems. In particular, electronic warfare.
Here's What We Know
BAE Systems has been awarded a contract to support the Advanced Digital Electronic Warfare System. Under the five-year contract, the company will manage repairs, logistics, modernisation, maintenance and testing.
BAE will also provide depot-level spares and engineering support. This will ensure that the electronic warfare system in the F-22 Raptor is ready and relevant, preserving the fifth-generation fighter's ability to gain air dominance.
The AN/ALR-94 is a fully passive yet effective electronic warfare system. It is capable of providing 360-degree coverage through an array of antennas spread across the hull.
The BAE Systems system can detect, identify and track aerial targets before they come into the radar's field of view. The AN/ALR-94 has a range of more than 400 kilometres. The system displays threat data including surface-to-air missile radars and long-range detection radars.
