Lockheed Martin has received nearly $176 million to support deliveries of fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jets under a $30bn contract
Lockheed Martin has received funding to support deliveries of fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighter jets to foreign customers. The funding was announced on the US Department of Defence website.
Here's What We Know
The Pentagon has allocated nearly $176 million to the defence contractor. The modification to an earlier contract will allow the US company to purchase parts to support deliveries of the 15th, 16th and 17th batches of the F-35 Lightning II.
Lockheed Martin signed an agreement at the end of 2022 to build and deliver up to 398 fifth-generation fighters as part of batches #15-17. The deal has a maximum value of $30bn, and as we noted above, the funding received from the Pentagon is aimed at supporting F-35 Lightning II deliveries to foreign customers.
The contract runs until December 2023. Work will take place at Lockheed Martin's plant in Fort Worth, Texas.
