Lockheed Martin has announced the first flight of a modernised F-16 Block 70 (Viper) fighter for the Slovak Air Force. The aircraft was unveiled a few days ago.

Here's What We Know

The first flight test of the fourth-generation fighter jet took place at Lockheed Martin's facility in South Carolina. Flight test pilot Ryan Blake successfully conducted numerous system tests to verify the performance and supersonic capabilities of the aircraft.

A press release from the US company indicates that Slovakia has become the first country in Europe to receive an F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter upgraded to Block 70. The integration of the new proven platform will allow the air force to effectively defend the country's borders.

Five years ago, Slovakia ordered 14 F-16V Block 70 fighter jets. The $1.8bn contract also includes AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM and AIM-9X Sidewinder air-to-air missiles. The upgraded aircraft has an AN/APG-83 radar, Link 16 communications system and a new flight computer.
