Greece intends to buy 49 UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters to replace its aging fleet of UH-1 Iroquois helicopters
Greece wants to renew its helicopter fleet. The government has already started negotiations with the American company Lockheed Martin.
Here's What We Know
The start of negotiations was announced at the AUSA 2023 conference in Washington DC. Greece's plan is to replace 69 UH-1 Iroquois helicopters, which continue to age and become expensive to maintain. Because of their age, accidents have become more frequent.
As a replacement, Greece has chosen UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters from Sikorsky, which is owned by US defence giant Lockheed Martin. It is about the order of 49 aircraft.
The amount of the potential deal is not specified at the moment. If the U.S. authorities approve the sale, deliveries of UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters will begin no sooner than three years after the contract is signed.
