Lockheed Martin will upgrade all Chilean F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters to the M6.6 standard for $177 million

The Chilean Air Force intends to modernise all of its fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. This will be done by the American company Lockheed Martin.

Here's What We Know

The US Department of Defence has officially announced the allocation of funding to Lockheed Martin to upgrade the F-16 Fighting Falcon to improve the aircraft's operational capabilities. The amount of the agreement was $177 million.

Work under the contract will take place at Lockheed Martin plants in South Carolina and Texas, as well as at facilities in Chile. They are expected to be completed by 30 November 2032.

The upgrade to the M6.6 standard involves the installation of own-versus-others identification transponders and the Link 16 data transmission system. The Chilean Air Force has 46 F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters in service.
