Official: Netherlands to transfer 6 additional F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters to Ukraine

The Netherlands is going to hand over more F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine than it originally said.

Here's What We Know

The corresponding information was reported by the Minister of Defence of the country. We are talking about 6 additional aircraft, which were going to be sold to a private company Draken International. But in the end the deal was cancelled.

Earlier, the Netherlands promised to send Ukraine 18 fighter jets. By the way, the Dutch army has a total of 42 F-16s in service, but 24 of them will be transferred to Ukraine, while the remaining 18 will be sent to Romania in order to train Ukrainian pilots.

Due to its versatility and low cost, the F-16 is a success on the international market. It is in service with 24 countries. The F-16 is the most mass-produced fighter of the fourth generation. As of 2009, more than 4,400 have been built, and more than 2,500 were in service in 2016.
