Big Mac for cryptocurrency - McDonald's started accepting Bitcoin in Switzerland
Fast food chain McDonald's has started accepting cryptocurrency in Switzerland. But so far only in one city.
Here's What We Know
Residents and guests of the city of Lugano, which is located near the Italian border can pay for a Big Mac (or other food) with cryptocurrency. The city has a population of just over 60,000 people.
To pay with cryptocurrency, you need to order through a self-service kiosk, get a receipt and go to the cashier. Bitcoin Magazine on Twitter posted a video of paying for food at McDonald's using Bitcoin, but the cash register also shows the logo of another cryptocurrency, Tether.

We should add that Lugano authorities signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tether Operations Limited last spring, according to which the company created two funds of $3 million and $106 million. The first is focused on encouraging firms to adopt cryptocurrency, and the second is aimed at startups. Residents will be able to use the digital currency to pay for parking, utilities and taxes.
