Dogecoin will fund lunar mission - SpaceX Falcon 9 will send DOGE-1 satellite into space
The US National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) has approved the DOGE-1 mission, which will be funded by the Dogecoin cryptocurrency. The satellite is being developed by Geometric Energy.
Here's What We Know
The project became known about two and a half years ago. Geometric Energy will build a 40-kilogram satellite with sensors and cameras that will be deployed in lunar orbit. The outer skin of the spacecraft will have a display to show advertisements. The image will be broadcast to Earth.
DOGE-1 will be the first satellite paid for with cryptocurrency. It will be sent into space using SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket. Despite the green light from NTIA, the flight will only be possible after receiving approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This was stated by Samuel Reid, CEO of Geometric Energy.
Note that there is another mission that will be funded by Dogecoin. The cryptocurrency's developers intend to deliver the so-called "physical token" Doge to the moon as part of a mission led by Astrobotic.
