Going to the Cinema for Bitcoin - AMC cinema chain started accepting cryptocurrency
Last month, Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Theatres, announced plans to start accepting cryptocurrency as a means of payment. Three weeks later, he announced the realization of what he envisioned.
What we know
To begin with, let's recall that AMC is the largest cinema chain in the world. It has almost 8000 screens in the United States and about 3000 in Europe.
Only U.S. residents can buy gift cards up to $200. AMC Cinemas accept Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Litecoin and even Dogecoin as payment. At the time of writing, the value is $54,632, $611, $3,540, $179 and $0.2454 respectively.
Huge news Dogecoin fans! As we work to accept online crypto payments, now you can buy @AMCTheatres digital gift cards (up to $200 per day) with Dogecoin and other cryptocurrency using a BitPay Wallet. Accepted on our website, mobile app, and in theatres. https://t.co/hPubbeq4YG pic.twitter.com/dra7e23tc8
