Apple and Amazon are being sued for conspiring to raise iPhone and iPad prices

In the U.S., a class action antitrust lawsuit was filed against Apple and Amazon for allegedly raising the price of consumer electronics.

Details

The lawsuit says that Apple and Amazon conspired with each other to raise the prices of iPhones and iPads. To do so, they removed almost all other resellers of Apple products from Amazon's online store website.

The class action lawsuit objects to the 2019 agreement. Apple gave Amazon a 10 percent discount on all of its products in exchange for only 7 of the 600 resellers remaining on the online store platform. In other words, this effectively made Amazon the largest reseller of new iPhones and iPads on its site.

After that, the prices of some Apple products rose by 10 percent, while the iPhone maker focused on stabilizing prices in its retail stores.

The lawsuit concerns U.S. residents who bought new iPhones and iPads on Amazon starting in January 2019. It seeks unspecified treble damages, restitution and an end to the companies' alleged so-called "class boycott."
