The cost of chip production in the U.S. will be 50% higher than in Taiwan

The founder of Taiwan's TSMC, Morris Chang, attended the economic summit in Bangkok, where he said a few words about the future of the semiconductor market.

To begin with, TSMC is preparing to build a cutting-edge facility in Arizona, where it will produce chips based on 3-nanometer technology. Morris Chan noted that Gina Raimondo, the head of the U.S. Department of Commerce, invited him to the ceremony of laying the foundation for the new plant.

Also, U.S. President Joe Biden may appear at the event, which will be held on December 6. But his presence is not yet officially confirmed. The head of the White House has repeatedly advocated the need to increase production volumes of chips inside the country to reduce dependence on China.

Morris Chan stressed that the construction of a new advanced factory in Arizona is an important project for the United States, which intends to develop the production of semiconductors in the country. The founder of TSMC is glad that his company is involved in this, despite the fact that the cost of chip production will be increased. According to Chan, semiconductor production in the U.S. will be about one and a half times more expensive than at facilities located in Taiwan.
