HP is introducing subscriptions for its printers and ink - starting at $7 for 20 printed pages per month
HP, which has been constantly criticised for its high ink prices and constant blocking of third-party inks, has decided to change its strategy and is offering customers a paid-for All-In Plan subscription for printer and ink usage.
Here's What We Know
The idea is that for a monthly fee, users get a free printer and ink, service support and the option to replace the old printer with a new one after 2 years. But the subscription involves limits on the number of pages printed.
Subscription costs vary depending on the printer you choose:
- HP Envy: 20 pages for $7, 50 pages for $9, 100 pages for $11
- HP Envy Inspire: 20 pages for $9, 50 pages for $11, 100 pages for $13, 300 pages for $19
- HP OfficeJet Pro: 20 pages for $13, 50 pages for $15, 100 pages for $17, 300 pages for $23, 700 pages for $36
With this, users can use the remaining pages in the next month or, alternatively, pay extra for printed pages over the limit.
HP offers a free 30-day trial period. But further, when subscribing, the fine print states that users will only be able to cancel for free after 2 years.
