Cheaper than MacBook Air: Apple is preparing low-cost MacBooks to compete with Chromebooks
According to DigiTimes Research, more than 13.9 million Chromebooks were shipped in 2019, rising to more than 30.4 million in 2020 and 33.5 million in 2021. Apparently, the popularity of Google's low-cost laptops for the education sector is keeping Apple busy, so it decided to release its Chromebook competitor.
Here's What We Know
According to industry sources DigiTimes, Apple is developing a new line of laptops that will be cheaper than the existing MacBook Air and Pro. They will be aimed at the education sector and will compete with Chromebooks.
Details about the new series are still scarce. It is reported that the MacBooks will get a metal body, but with different materials. We should also expect more budget components.
Most likely, the new low-cost MacBooks will be released in the second half of 2024.
