Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 will get a new processor, more accurate sensors and a U2 chip
Apple will hold a presentation on September 12, where it will show not only the iPhone 15 smartphones, but also the Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2nd generation. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman tells us what changes to expect from the smartwatch.
Here's What's New About It
First and foremost, Apple has updated the sensors and some components to improve speed, performance and accuracy. These include a new version of the optical heart rate sensor and a new processor, which actually hasn't changed for three consecutive generations of the device.
Also, both watch models will get a brand new ultra-wideband U2 chip. The first version of this chip (U1) appeared back in 2019 in the iPhone 11 Pro. The new chip will improve the Apple Watch's location capabilities, allowing for more accurate tracking of people and devices in the Find My app. This chip will likely also be used in the iPhone 15 smartwatch.
In addition, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 will be made from more recycled materials and will also be available in black for the first time. And some elements of the Apple Watch Series 9 case will be printed on a 3D printer. From next year, this technology will extend to the Apple Watch Ultra as well.
