Report: Apple is actively working on a foldable iPad and could unveil it as early as next year
Despite the rapid growth and development of the foldable device market, Apple is still among the few manufacturers that still don't have such a gadget. However, numerous leaks indicate that the company is actively working on it. And it looks like Apple's first foldable gadget will not be a smartphone, but a tablet.
Here's What We Know
DigiTimes, citing sources in the supply chain, reports that a foldable iPad is in "intensive development" and Apple is actively working with suppliers. The Taiwanese publication believes Apple could announce the device in late 2024 or early 2025 if it maintains steady progress. But mass production of the product won't start until 2025.
Apple seems to have chosen the tablet because it accounts for a relatively small portion of sales, meaning potential problems are easier to fix and less significant.
Right now, the main problem is the panel and hinges. The company is hoping that Samsung and LG can provide a flexible display without creases. The developers are also looking for a design that is more cost-effective and easier to mass produce, which may require further simplification and reduction in parts count.
